Join us for a day of science and learn more about our wonderful programs. We will explore agriculture, nutrition and environmental education & research through hands-on activities presented by UC Cooperative Extension Advisors, Staff and Program Volunteers.  So much to discover!

  • Learn about pollination, beekeeping, and the buzz inside a honey bee hive.
Dr. Sheena Sidhu, UC Staff Researcher and Entomologist will show you what the buzz is all about.
  • Sample fresh seasonal produce with recipes & tips from our Nutrition staff.  Stop by for a delicious Autumn snack.  We think you’ll love it!

  • Learn how to make a seed pot with old newspaper and plant a seed to take home with our Healthy Living Ambassadors.

  • Learn all about aquatic food webs with a hike to our stream. Catch a stream insect and view it under a microscope! Dr. Igor Lacan, UC Environmental Horticulture Advisor will entertain and amaze you!
     *(2) 45 min. tours: 10:30-11:15 and 1:00-1:45*

  • Explore local rangeland ecology with a short ranch hike and learn about the benefits of livestock grazing around urban communities with Sheila Barry, UC Livestock & Natural Resources Advisor.
     *(3) 30 min. tours: 11:00-11:30, 12:00-12:30, and 1:00-1:30*

  • Discover the many possibilities of edible herbs, their flavor, aroma & use in food.  Then move on for a little Green Waste 101 with our Master Gardeners.

  • Ever asked yourself: “what’s that bug in my house?”  Local expert, Dr. Andrew Sutherland, UC Urban IPM Advisor, will be on hand to enlighten you.

  • Kombucha – the secret sauce! Touch a SCOBY and titillate your taste buds with our Master Food Preservers.

  • From Coop to Barn – learn about food & fiber systems, meet our animals and tour our gardens with the Elkus Ranch Educators.
     *(3) 30 min. tours: 10:30-11:00, 11:30-12:00, and 12:30-1:00*

  • Come see how mushrooms and termites turn wood into food (and how you too can become part of that food chain!).

  • Talk to a soil scientist and get the dirt on “dirt!” Learn about the wonders of our local soils, and learn how to determine soil texture in your garden!

  • Bring along a “waste free” lunch and enjoy our lovely setting – don’t forget a hat, sunscreen, and your walking shoes!

Reservations are required as space is limited so reserve now!
