4-H Arts & Crafts Expo and Favorite Foods Day
The San Mateo County 4-H program offers youth the opportunity to participate in our Arts & Crafts Expo (May 15) to showcase what they learned and created in their 4-H projects. 4-H'ers entered in one or more of the five categories: Hobby Crafts, Needlework, Photography, Project Display Boards, and Visual Arts. Our volunteers provided feedback and comments. You can view the 30 entries on our YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/uCImyyxRtlE. Some of these entries will be displayed at the San Mateo County Fair (June 5 – 13, 2021).
The Favorite Foods Day was held on May 15. The event provided 4-H members in any food project the opportunity to show-off their cooking skills and what they learned. They received constructive feedback from our volunteer judges. The 4-H’ers planned a menu for an entire meal that included their Favorite Food entry. They considered nutrition, color, texture, and flavor. Our major emphasis in the 4-H Foods Projects continue to be teaching good nutrition principles. They were asked how their menu met these principles. The participants ranged in age from 5 to 15 years old. The foods that were prepared included a vanilla and strawberry wedding cake, honey whole wheat bread, wonton sundae, strawberry shortcake pizookie, millionaire’s chicken and pumpkin muffins. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we did not have the food tasting part of the event. Youth that participated had a lot of fun!
