4-H held their annual Presentation Day and Interview Contest on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the College of San Mateo. Presentation Day is a fun opportunity for 4-H members to showcase their knowledge in a subject of their choosing. 4-Hers prepare a presentation that is judged on subject knowledge, presentation, organization, voice, manner and appearance, clarity, and the ability to answer questions.
The Interview Contest gives 4-H members an opportunity to practice the real-life skills needed to apply for a job (e.g., dog walker, movie clerk, or subject tutor). Participants prepare a resumé and cover letter for a job in their age category.
We are so thankful for our volunteers who helped plan and execute this great event as well as our volunteer judges who are local civic leaders, 4-H alumni and 4-H parents. Our judges were so impressed with the caliber of the presentations and interviews. One of our judges, Sara McDowell, San Carlos City Councilmember said, “I was so impressed by all the presentations, ranging from How to Raise a Chicken” to The Israeli Palestinian Conflict: Origins and the Hope for Peace.”
In addition, our Pacifica 4-H club sold lunches at the event to raise funds to purchase needed items such as food, diapers, toiletries, backpacks, and more to help the homeless in their community.
