UCCE Open House 2023

UC Cooperative Extension and Elkus Ranch invite you to a (1) day OPEN HOUSE event highlighting our educational programs and work.  Bring the whole family, learn something new, and experience our beautiful location, including our friendly ranch animals - always a hit with the kids! 

Meet program staff and advisors who will have activities for adults and youth, including; 4-H, Elkus Ranch, Master Food Preservers, Master Gardeners, Nutrition, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Urban Forestry, and Youth Development.

With a focus on the "World of Water" we will explore this essential element, it's impact in our lives, and ways to be sustainable.  Here are a few of the activities:

• Water Wizards: includes an interactive model demonstrating watershed movement and permeability (super cool!).
• Dehydration, Spices, and Fruit Shrubs (samples to taste of course)
• Aquatic Insects (see them live under a microscope)
• Pollinators, Drought & Gardens (make a pollinator seed pop!)
  
• Insects and IPM (wood rot and termites anyone?)
• Composting (learn more and bring a bag or container to take some home!)

Other stations include:

• Explore the gardens (so peaceful and serene)
  
• Visit the ranch animals (chickens & goats - yeah!)
  
• Water - essential to good nutrition (sample an infusion)
  
• and other hands-on activities!
